Perks of Sex Education in Rural India

In the land of Kamasutra where diverse cultures flourish, sex education has always been recognized as a controversial subject, especially in rural India.

Perks of Sex Education in Rural India

Sex education is not just restricted to sex and birth control, rather it is a wide spectrum that aims to build a strong foundation for the long-lasting sexual health of people.

Misapprehensions about Sex Education

Sex is an intimate act that involves a physical as well as emotional interaction between two people. If both people are not on the same page of awareness and acceptance, the outcome can be damaging on both levels. The dearth of awareness and understanding of the opposite sex is usually the beginning of the conflict between sexes.

However, the objections and apprehensions around sex education which indicate that it corrupts the youth and offends Indian values, leading to experimentation, promiscuity, and irresponsible sexual behavior are baseless.

Along with the rising population, underage marriages are a major setback in the rural parts of India. The lack of awareness on family planning increases the risks of untimely pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among women. On the contrary, education with respect to family planning, contraception, and conception can ameliorate the situation and give young women an opportunity to make their own decisions.

Moreover, the instances of sexual abuse, violence and physical abuse are increasing among youth. Sex education might help the vulnerable population to be aware of their sexual rights, while empowering them to protect themselves from any undesired act of violence, sexual abuse, and molestation.

Sex education can improve the situation

Manforce condoms believes that using protection during sexual intercourse is of utmost importance. However, restricted and limited access to contraceptives, disapproval of using a condom by sexual partner, husband’s alcohol addiction, the absence of youth-friendly health centers, and the judgmental attitude of the person at the pharmacy store are some of the major stumbling blocks in making good sexual health a reality, especially for the youth in rural parts of India.

Though condoms have been promoted as a family planning method since its inception, there’s still a dire need to reduce the hesitation built around the word in rural India. Nonetheless, by using various awareness building tools such as engaging and attractive communication materials, wall art and informative local events, along with organizing training sessions for influencers like teachers and health center workers, the aim of imparting wholesome sex education can become a reality and improve the situation effectively.

Sex education falls under the domain of basic human rights. It must be age appropriate, accurate, and grounded in gender equality. Furthermore, sex education should direct in a positive direction of good sexual health so that people can make better choices.
